Firs Park Ticket Rush

skrevet av Geir Sindre Breivik (14.09.2007 12:27)

This has been an unlikely headline for years, but it seems to be the case ahead of East Stirlingshire FC’s Challenge Cup bash against 1st division side Morton. Due to the number of exits at Firs Park, Central Scotland Police has limited the number of spectators to 750. Given the fact that Morton has an average travelling support of 700 there is a possibility that Firs Park will see ticket sharks for the very first time.

Morton has put ESFC under pressure to move the fixture to a bigger venue, but the Hires have politely rejected the query and states that they are looking forward to crush Morton at Firs Park.

This is undoubtedly a grand occasion for the Shires and Gordon Brown states that the team has used the rest provided by last week’s internationals well. Morale has never been higher and the players are looking forward to put yet another scalp in their belt to make it 7 in a row. As the Shires haven’t achieved 6 in a row since 1968, 7 will be absolutely sensational.

It seems that the main focus of the local rag is Tuesday’s cup tie, the Shires will have the opportunity to win the 7th in a row already tomorrow afternoon when Stranraer will travel from their windy ferry port up to Scotland’s central belt. It’s not going to be easy for the Shires. Stranraer are desperate for a promotion and they've got Barry Fergusons brother as an assistant coach (not sure if that's an advantage) but with the current player confidence there is hope that Firs Park will once again transform into a play- pen!

East Stirlingshire FC is currently Scottish Football’s second hottest topic (the hottest is Scotland’s sensational win on Wednesday). Both the Glasgow Herald and the Scotsman have run articles of the miracle at Firs Park, even Sky Sports respected anchorman Jeff Stelling has taken a shine towards the club and keeps millions of brits updated on East Stirlingshire FC’s latest achievements.

Gordon Wylde will have to do without Mark McKenzie tomorrow and it is therefore likely that the Shires will start with the same 11 that started against Albion Rovers a fortnight ago.
