East Stirlingshire 1- Queens Park 0

skrevet av Geir Sindre Breivik (07.09.2007 10:47)

The Shires are now clearly on a roll and the last victim of the Mighty Shires were Queens Park who got booted out of the Challenge Cup on Tuesday. Queens Park were prepared for a walkover after going all the way against Hibernian in the CIS Cup last week and a very good start to the season securing them second place in the second division table.

Sean Simpson bereaved them of cup advancement with his goal in the 33rd minute. In fact, the Shires could have been 2-0 up after a Savage shot hit the post and a cracker of a free kick towards the end of the first half.

Queens Park changed their game in the second half but were kept at bay by a heroic Shire defence. Both David King and Derek Ure kicked the ball off the line in desperate attempts to keep a clean sheet. The Shires eventually got their mojo back and both Savage and Moffat could have doubled the score after a couple of excellent counter attacks.

The word “promotion” is now whispered in Falkirk, but Gordon Wylde remains cool and states that he is happy with ninth this year.
